| K Bax | My OS is Windows 98SE and I use Outlook 98. When I reply or forward to some messages the text is completely wiped out and the only thing the recipient/s see is ÿþ< I use McAfee Virus Scan and it's up to date and I scan regularly. I also use Spy Sweeper and Zone Alarm Firewall. This is really a problem. Please help! |
| Josh1 | Is this on all emails? Go to Tools-Options-Read and make sure read all emails in plain text is checked. The location may be a little bit different then what where i have told you, but you should see a setting like this in Options. ------------------ Powered by Intelligent Computing Solutions. ------------------------ www.footslog.com www.compsol.8k.com For every problem, there is a solution.

| K Bax | This happens ONLY on emails that I FORWARD or REPLY to, not ones that I originate. I went to Tools, clicked on Options, but wasn't able to find a place where READ was a choice. Thanks very much |

| michael-j | i've having the same issue with some users here. the research i've done points to sending emails in html format and the encoding getting screwed up for some reason. |
| Josh1 | Michael-j, have you looked at this link? http://email.about.com/od/outlooktips/index_r.htm

| michael-j | yea i checked that out. i didnt see anyhting on there. i've read a few articles saying that this happens when someone using outlook express send an html email and doesn't include the original message. My users alll use Outlook 2003 in an Exchange 2003 environment. It's a weird one. It only happens now and again. I'm trying to trace this particular email back to see where the problem occured. Maybe someone was using a strange character set that the next recipient's email client understand? Who knows. |
| Josh1 | "Maybe someone was using a strange character set that the next recipient's email client understand?" Yea that could be the problem, the system does not know and cannot decipher the special character, because the software cannot decipher anything that it does not already have or understand. Or it could have something to do with the encoding & decoding ------------------ Powered by Intelligent Computing Solutions. ------------------------ www.footslog.comFor every problem, there is a solution. | michael-j | I am still running into this problem. I have read numerous sites detailing almost exactly the same problem including this one from Microsoft, http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=555534 So far all we have been doing is upgrading users from Outlook 98 to Outlook 2003 as we come across them. On that Microsoft article it says that uuencoded messages are handled differently in Exchange 2003 SP2. I talked to our network administrator and we did recently upgrade to SP2. Looks like that might have been the culprit. |
| Josh1 | So the upgrade did the fix? ------------------ Forget not my law but let your heart keep my commandments Proverbs 3:1 Powered by Intelligent Computing Solutions. ------------------------ www.footslog.com For every problem, there is a solution. | michael-j | Since the email messages that were all garbled were already corrupt it didn't fix them. But it does seem to keep it from happening in the future. |
